today's NASHVILLE SCENE..

Lisa O'Kane

Reprinted from Nashville Scene: Our Critics Picks June 3-9, 2004
Despite success in Europe, this Californian is a virtual stranger to Nashville audiences. When she makes her debut at the Western Beat Revival this week, O'Kane will show off her earnest country-folk voice, which is reminiscent of Emmylou Harris, though not without sass and swing of its own. Her new CD, Peace of Mind, contains 14 excellent songs (five of them O'Kane co-writes), as well as backing by topflight West Coast studio players like Skip Edwards and Bob Glaub. O'Kane jumps easily from the rockin' up-tempo opener to mirthful bluegrass to easy folk to string-laced elegance. If the playing of her traveling band measures up to that of the pros on her record, this gig should be notable.
