Lisa O'Kane - Peace Of Mind
Raisin' Kane RK4129
Reprinted from Golden Graham Online
Hailing from California's Yosemite Valley, singer and songwriter Lisa O'Kane stamped her mark on International country music back in 2002 with her highly acclaimed debut CD Am I Too Blue. Her first single "Little Black Cloud" quickly rose to the #1 spot on the European Top 30 Independent Chart in July 2002 and made its home in the Top 3 for more than 11 weeks. The second single from the CD, "My Sweet Love Ain't Around," was introduced to International radio 1 via the Country HotDisc in September 2002. Returning from her first Euro tour in February, 2003, once again Lisa found herself sitting pretty in the #1 spot on the European Top 30 Independent Country Chart for the second consecutive week with her single, "Wall Of Tears." Am I Too Blue garnered her airplay and recognition "beyond her wildest dreams." Lisa remarked, "Rising to the top of the EMS Charts again so quickly is such a wonderful surprise. It warms my heart that radio and the fans have supported my debut album for nearly a year with airplay and kept my dream alive."

Lisa O'Kane's European tour took in radio and television appearances in Amsterdam and two surprise invitations to perform at MIDEM 2003 in Cannes, France. Lisa then travelled to Northern Spain for six well-received gigs in venues ranging from city theatres to intimate cafes. Fans came from as far away as France, Germany, Italy and Czechoslovakia to see her live, and O'Kane was overwhelmed by the reception she received.

Lisa O'Kane releases her second album with Peace of Mind containing 14 tracks, co-writing 5 of the songs with Mark Fosson who also plays guitar, mandolin, dulcimer and even the spoons on several tracks. Edward Tree produced the album, co-wrote "Stronger Than Your Memory" and "Softer Place To Fall" with Fosson along with playing electric, acoustic and baritone guitars as well as dobro. This highly talented team have another sure winner to follow in the wake of Am I Too Blue and sure to have fans falling over themselves to obtain this sophomore album.

Fred Rose's "Foggy River" creeps up on you with the stark croaking of bullfrogs setting the scene from the outset and O'Kane offering a bluesy undertow with primal atmospheric drum-beat and an evocative haunting fiddle lingering for greater effect. The first of O'Kane's songwriting collaborations comes with the soft bluegrass styled "Long Gone" followed by "Settle Down" picking up the pace with a bright bluegrass expression. The title track sees the second of the album's songs co-written by Lisa who comments; "My Favourite is 'Peace Of Mind.' I really felt like I had come into my own when I heard that song played back in the studio."

The closing track "Highland Ground" comes with a Celtic flavour in stark comparison to the earlier tracks on the album. Peace Of Mind makes a fine follow-up album to Am I Too Blue, offering a wide selection of styles, though personally I feel the slow numbers out way those that are more up-tempo. That said; Peace Of Mind accentuates the pure tantalizing vocals of Lisa O'Kane, surely catching the attention of even more fans with this fine collection.
